Vintage Canister Spree

One of my goals for 2013 is to make our home somewhere I really like to be in, and that means making it pretty!

Naturally, I went on an etsy spree.

A bit premature, perhaps.
The next step is to paint.
Eek!

Interview with Radical Design Manifesto

My dear friend Derron runs a blog called the Radical Designer's Manifesto on tumblr, and recently featured me on his blog with an interview. I thought it was really sweet- and he always has wonderful things to say about me. Go and check it out  HERE. He's got a great eye for design, and has some great tips on "design on a dime" type of stuff.

Derron and me, he might look familiar from a few of my own blog posts :)

Crafty Fairs coming up

Tons of fun stuff in San Francisco coming up.

Bazaar Bizaarre is having a craft show this weekend the 11-12 at Fort Mason, I met one of the guys that is a part of this board, and they're really cool and have a really sweet sort of vaudeville feel to them.
Click here to get more details on that.

And my ever favorite Renegade Craft Fair is having a holiday in a couple weeks in SoMa! I looved the last show they did, and I can't wait to see the 250 some artists this time around. It'll be a good chance to maybe score some last minute Christmas gifts,

Chicago is having their's right now, so if you're in the area check that out, and LA is having their's on the 11th and 12th as well!

A side note about what's going on lately in my life: I just discovered that I will have to get a retreatment on a previous  root canal! That's going to cost me a pretty penny, even with my insurance! I'm getting that on Wednesday, so hopefully all will go well. It's actually pretty scary. If everything goes well it'll just be a dent in my pocket, if everything DOESN'T go well it could be bad. If they break my crown I'll have to go to a different dentist to make a new one, which I will have to wait until January because my insurance has run out for the year (I have a PPO). If the root canal doesn't work to remove the infection at my root, I'll have to get SURGERY or they'll just pull the tooth. WHAT. Toothless Betty, that's what they'll be calling me. :\

I was hoping I could buy my wedding dress with that money, but oh well. I'll find a dress. Teeth are kind of important anyway right? And eyes. Teeth and eyes, that's what I will always be willing to shell out money for. I have bad both of them unfortunately.

Anyway. I'm sure it'll be fine. And even if it isn't, I'll be okay. I'll figure something out - I always do.

Christmas Tree

We've put our Christmas Tree up finally! It feels like the atmosphere has completely changed- I am so excited for the holidays I can't wait. This year we are staying in SF, but going back home to the Midwest in January because it's way too expensive to fly home for Christmas. That's okay though. I get a ton of time off of work, so I can relax and enjoy the holiday spirit with my family here! Hoping to get some presents under that tree very soon. Yay!

My unwise outfit

So I wear things on the weekend that I don't normally wear during the week, just because I can, and because it's fun to dress differently once in awhile. I made an unwise outfit choice this past weekend though. I put this outfit on and thought to myself that I looked cute and fun, but didn't even think about how it would be perceived to the outside world. I'll tell you how I looked to the outside world. Like a ho.

I learned this by walking around in SF's Mission district before getting my hair cut, and subsequently getting honked at, cat called, and whistled at. I did not appreciate this, and though flattering at first, you start to feel really dirty after the 3rd and 4th times. My fiancĂ© just laughed at me.

I asked Mr. Rockit why he didn't tell me my outfit was so distractingly risque, and he equated it to having a child that's like I WANT TO WEAR PAJAMAS! and being so excited about it, you can't tell them not to. So he let me out of the house looking like a tramp. Apparently.

Anyway, here is the outfit. (sort of) Tell me what you think? I still don't understand what made it so scandalous. I think it may be the high socks. Either way, I'm only wearing this outfit in the Castro from now on.

Renegade

Renegade Craft fair was great this weekend. I met some awesome vendors, including a couple of chicas whose blogs I follow!

Elsie from A Beautiful Mess!

There's always this strange awkward creepiness when I meet people I've seen online. I'm not normally a shy person but when I admit to someone I have cyber stalked them and know way too much about them, it gets weird. I got shy and ran away after this picture. This is not my first real life meeting with a cyber person though.

I met Angela from Oiyi's crafts in Brooklyn at a fair once too. It wasn't weird at all because she had done some cyber stalking of her own and it was so funny. Like a blind date almost. I was like oh your little girl is adorable and she was like your cats are so cute. After that I knitted with her knitting group a couple of times too so it was pretty cool!

I met several other people whose work I'd seen online and it was great to put a name and face to their art. Some people like Elsie were gracious and sweet, and some- well - some were not! The craft world is a small world though, and everyone has seen everything it seems like.

It also takes a level of comfort to be the blogger and to disclose bits of your life with total strangers. The nice thing is when these strangers stop being strangers and become your friends. It takes a lot of trust to put everything out there for the world to see.

Here are some great vendors that I met and liked! Not all of course, but those whose cards I took.
Tinted Mint: Really cute paper products/ ribbon tape!
Verameat: Had the cutest affenpinscher at the booth, and some beautiful jewelry.
Drew Morrison: Amazing illustrations, I didn't buy anything but think maybe I will online.
SEIBEI: Awesome dinosaur tees and my favorite "I'm fat let's party"
Ach Ach Liebling: Really great and hand crafted jewelry. I bought a set of dagger earrings.
Handmade Whimsy: "fanciful trinkets and textiles"
aroostudio: Cute pet stuff! ALSO had the SWEETEST beagle pup who I fell in love with.
Raw Toast Design: Great illustrations and graphics. My friend got a great boston terrier print
Sweet Penelope: Grabbed this card for wedding invites!

The affenpinscher. If you don't know what an affenpinscher is. You should.

SF Fail

Ok, I've been singing Sf's praises since I've been here but I have to be honest about one thing in particular. The style here? Does not exist. I could equate it to colorblind bum. Seriously.

This is taken from a SF Style blog... I mean really?? This is fashion?? This is a girl with a hangover who dressed herself in the dark. WTF.

Vintage does NOT necessarily equal cute. What your grandmother wears is not hot. BLEH.

Happy Friday!!!

Also found out that there is a street craft fair in a couple weeks right by our new place,

San Franciscooo

So far, I love it here.
The weather, the bay, the grass, the trees...
All except..
The unemployment. Eep.
But the upside of that is that I have time to work on my little guys-
and build up for the opening of my etsy shop.
If I can't get a job- well maybe I can work for myself right? :D

Here's a low quality pic taken of my newest friend Bronto. He looks very loch nessy actually but hey that's okay. I'm going to make a dino family- and will post better pictures later when I find the charger for Mr. Rockit's camera.

Cat Bag

So the cat's pretty much out of the bag, and though I'm hesitant to post on FB, I know there is much less readership on this lovely blog'o'mine.

Yes, we are moving again. To San Francisco.

Mr. Rockit got an irrefutable offer and so... off we go.
again.

I was initially quite dismayed by the news, but I'm warming up to it. The only problem is that it is quite stressful for me seeing that I have no job out there. Not cool. But I'm taking this as an opportunity to find my dream job.

Not that working with children and creating theatre pieces with them isn't amazing. It is. It's just that.. well why did I go to college if I were going to keep having these jobs that will never go anywhere?

So I've sucked it up and have been applying to jobs that I want. I worry that I'm not qualified for some of them, or that my competition will be much MORE qualified, but I just have to hope for the best.

The thing about job hunting these days is that I always feel like "oh if they could just MEET me they would KNOW I'd be awesome at this job!" but more often than not I don't even get a chance to interview. Why? Because so many other people who are FAR less interesting than I have bomb ass resumes while mine pales in comparison. Unlike my shining personality which does not translate through paper. Maybe I should attach a youtube link to every resume. I'm sure they would appreciate my rap renditions greatly.

And unless someone scoops this kitten up, we might be keeping her.
